There’s something about those first few weeks...
The tiny fingers. The wrinkly feet. The sleepy stretches. The way their entire body seems to fit perfectly against yours.
And then somehow, they're bigger.
As a newborn photographer serving Manor, TX and the Austin area, one of my favorite parts of newborn sessions is making sure families don't just have beautiful photos of their baby, but photographs that capture all those little details you'll miss once they start changing.
Here are 9 newborn photos you'll want to have before your baby gets bigger.
1. The Tiny Details
Get those fingers, toes, eyelashes, lips, and little rolls.
These details change so quickly, and they're some of the easiest things to forget as your baby grows.
A close-up of your baby's hand next to yours can be just as meaningful as a traditional portrait.
2. Baby's Full-Length Portrait
This is the classic newborn photo for a reason.
A full-body portrait lets you see just how tiny your baby really was.
Those curled-up legs, tiny belly, little feet, and perfectly round cheeks won't stay that way for long.
3. Baby in Mom + DAD'S Arms
One of my favorite things to photograph is just how small a newborn looks when they're being held.
It's also a beautiful way to remember what those early days actually felt like.
You don't have to worry about posing perfectly. I'll help guide you into a position that feels natural and photographs beautifully.
4. The Whole Family
Don't skip the family photo.
I know this one can feel intimidating when you're exhausted, adjusting to life with a newborn, and maybe haven't had much time to get ready.
But your baby will eventually want to see what their family looked like when they were tiny.
You don't need everyone to look perfect. You just need everyone together.
5. Sibling Photos
If your baby has an older brother or sister, make sure you get photographs of them together.
And don't worry if your toddler isn't exactly thrilled about sitting still for pictures.
Toddlers are toddlers.
We can work with them, take breaks, and keep things moving. Some of the best sibling photos happen when they're simply interacting with the baby instead of trying to pose perfectly.
7. Baby's Profile
Those little noses!
A simple side profile showing your baby's nose, lips, eyelashes, and cheeks is one of those photographs you'll appreciate even more later.
Especially when you start noticing which features they kept as they grew.
7. Baby's Hands Holding Yours
This is one of those photographs that shows just how tiny they were.
Your hand next to your baby's hand can give you a completely different perspective than a photo of the baby alone.
It's a tiny detail now, but someday you'll look at it and wonder how their hands were ever that small.
8. A Wide Studio Portrait
Not every newborn photograph needs to be a close-up.
I love including a few images that show the entire setup, especially when we've created a soft color palette or styled the session around your baby's nursery or your family's aesthetic.
These photographs give your gallery variety and let you remember the little world you created for your baby.
9. The Photo You Didn't Know You Needed
This might be my favorite category.
Sometimes it's the photograph that happens between poses.
Baby stretches.
Dad looks down at baby.
Mom kisses their forehead.
A sibling reaches over to touch their hand.
Baby opens their eyes and looks directly at you.
These little interactions can end up being some of the most meaningful photographs in your gallery.
