If you're expecting a baby and thinking about newborn photos, there are a few things you can do before your little one arrives that will make the whole experience easier.

As a Manor, TX newborn photographer, I work with families who want beautiful photos without having to stress about bringing a ton of supplies or figuring everything out themselves. Here are three things I recommend doing before baby arrives.

1. Book Your Newborn Photographer Early

One of the easiest things to put off during pregnancy is booking your newborn photographer. There are so many things to plan before baby arrives, but newborn photography is one of those things that's much easier to arrange ahead of time.

Most families schedule their newborn session during the first couple of weeks after baby is born. Booking during pregnancy gives you one less thing to worry about after delivery.

I recommend reaching out around your second or third trimester to ask about availability, pricing and what is included with your session. Your photographer can also give you an idea of how scheduling works once your baby arrives.

And don't worry if your baby doesn't arrive exactly on their due date. We can plan around baby's actual arrival.

2. Save Your Photographer's Newborn Prep List

You don't need to pack your entire house for a newborn photography session.

For my Manor newborn photography studio sessions, I provide wraps, blankets, simple props and posing essentials. This means you don't have to spend money buying a bunch of things that you'll probably only use once.

You'll mainly want to bring the basics your baby already needs, like diapers, feeding supplies and a pacifier if you use one. You can also bring a special blanket, outfit or sentimental item you'd like included in some of the photos.

I also recommend dressing baby in something that's easy to remove, such as a zip-up sleeper. This makes getting ready for the session much easier and helps us avoid pulling anything over baby's head.

3. Don't Wait for a "Perfect" Baby

This one is probably the most important.

Your baby doesn't have to sleep through the entire session. They don't have to be perfectly content the entire time. And you definitely don't need to worry about whether your baby is going to cooperate for photos.

Newborn sessions are built around the baby.

Sometimes we get those sleepy, curled-up photos everyone loves. Other times baby wants to stretch, look around, eat, be held or take a break. Those little expressions and details are part of the experience, too.

As a newborn photographer, I'm prepared to take breaks for feeding, changing and soothing whenever your baby needs one. My goal is to keep the session relaxed and comfortable rather than rushing through it.
