If you're looking for a cute spot for your next photo session in Austin, there are SO many options. From the Texas Capitol to colorful murals, greenery, skyline views, and pretty city streets, you really can't go wrong!

As a photographer based in Manor, TX, I photograph families, seniors, couples, maternity sessions, branding sessions, and more around the Austin area. So I wanted to put together a little guide to some of my favorite downtown Austin photo spots, especially if you're not sure where you want your session to take place!

And because parking can be a whole thing in downtown Austin 😂, I'm including parking suggestions too!

1. Texas State Capitol

If you want your photos to feel classic, elegant, and very Texas, the Capitol is such a good choice!

The architecture is gorgeous, and there are so many different areas we can use. Think big columns, stairs, greenery, walkways, and all those pretty little details.

I especially love this location for senior photos, couples, branding sessions, maternity, and more formal portraits.

Parking: There are parking garages and paid street parking around the Capitol. I recommend arriving about 10 to 15 minutes early so you have time to park and walk over.

Best time: Morning or late afternoon when the light is softer.

2. Alliance Children's Garden at Butler Park

Okay, if you're looking for a spot that is fun, colorful, and actually gives the kiddos something to do, this one is SO good!

Alliance Children's Garden is right by Butler Park and the Liz Carpenter Fountain. The children's garden has multiple play areas, including the Rock & Slide Valley with those fun concrete-style slides.

I especially love this area for families with little kids because they don't have to stand there and smile at a camera for an entire session. 😂 We can let them play, run around, climb, and explore while I capture those sweet candid moments.

Parking: There are parking options around Butler Park and the surrounding downtown area. Since you're close to the Long Center and Lady Bird Lake, I'd give yourself a little extra time to find parking.

Best time: Late afternoon into golden hour. ✨

3. Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge

If you want that Austin skyline moment, this is the spot!

You get Lady Bird Lake, the downtown skyline, the bridge, and beautiful city views all in one place. It's especially pretty around golden hour when everything starts glowing.

I love this location for couples, engagements, seniors, maternity, and branding photos.

Parking: There are parking options around downtown and the West Avenue area. You may have to walk a little, so definitely give yourself some extra time.

Best time: Golden hour! 🌅

The sunset views here can be SO pretty, especially if you want that iconic "I took my pictures in Austin" look.

And if you're still not sure which one fits your session, that's totally okay! Tell me the vibe you're going for and I can help you choose a location that fits.
