Maternity Photos Can Happen Anywhere
When we think about maternity photos, we usually picture a beautiful studio, a field at golden hour, or a mom getting dressed up in a flowy maternity gown.
But sometimes motherhood looks completely different.
Hospitals Can Be Beautiful
I recently had the opportunity to photograph a mama who was spending her pregnancy in the hospital. She had already been there for 6 weeks, while her husband and family were living about an hour away. At home, she also had an 18-month-old daughter waiting for her.
And somehow, through all of that, she was still finding strength.
She wanted to celebrate this pregnancy and document this chapter with her baby, even though it wasn't happening the way she originally imagined.
So we brought the maternity session to her.
It isn't the typical maternity session...
She was still a mom carrying her baby. She was still growing a little life. She was still allowed to feel beautiful, celebrated, and proud of how far she had come.
And having another little girl at home made the whole experience even more emotional. Her 18-month-old was missing her mom, her husband and family were an hour away, and she had already spent six weeks in the hospital. That is a lot for anyone to carry.
But she was strong.
She showed up for herself and for her baby.
That is something I will never forget.
You're Beautiful
As a maternity photographer, I truly believe every mom deserves to celebrate this season, even when pregnancy doesn't look picture-perfect or go according to plan.
Your maternity session doesn't have to happen in a studio. It doesn't have to be outdoors. You don't have to have the perfect dress, the perfect location, or the perfect pregnancy.
Sometimes, your story is the most beautiful part.
I have photographed a hospital maternity session, and I would absolutely do it again. If you're currently on bed rest, hospitalized, or simply unable to travel to a studio, that doesn't mean you have to miss out on documenting this chapter.
Your pregnancy deserves to be remembered.
Your strength deserves to be photographed.
And you deserve to have beautiful photos of yourself becoming a mother, no matter where that happens.
