“When should I take my maternity photos?”

Pregnancy is such a beautiful, temporary chapter, and maternity photos are one of the best ways to preserve it. But one of the biggest questions I hear from expecting mothers is:

“When should I take my maternity photos?”

For most moms, the sweet spot is between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. Your belly is beautifully rounded and visible, but you’re typically still comfortable enough to move around, pose, and enjoy your session.

Of course, every pregnancy is different. Some moms may want to photograph their bump a little earlier, while others prefer to wait until closer to their due date. The most important thing is choosing a time when you feel confident and comfortable.

Why 30–32 Weeks Can Be the Perfect Time

Around 30–32 weeks, your belly is usually prominent enough to create those gorgeous maternity silhouettes and curves without waiting until the final weeks of pregnancy.

You may also have more energy than you will later in your third trimester, making it easier to change outfits, try different poses, and move between setups during your session.

If you have a specific date, outfit, or vision in mind, I recommend booking your maternity session early. You don't want to be trying to schedule your photos when you're already uncomfortable and counting down the days until your due date.

When Should You Book Your Maternity Session?

I recommend reaching out around the beginning of your second trimester to make sure you have plenty of time to choose your date and plan your session.

Your actual session will typically take place around 28–34 weeks, depending on how you're feeling and the look you're hoping to achieve.

If you're dreaming of beautiful, timeless maternity portraits, a studio session gives you the opportunity to slow down and truly enjoy the experience.

This season of life doesn't last forever.

Your photographs can make sure the memories do.
