Newborn Photography Does Not Have To Be Perfectly Posed
One of the biggest worries I hear from parents before a newborn session is, “What if the baby won’t sleep?”
Honestly? That’s okay.
Your baby does not have to sleep for the entire session. In fact, some of my favorite newborn photos happen when babies are wide awake.
Those little eyes are so sweet. The tiny expressions. The way they look around at mom and dad. Those are photos you’ll want to remember too.
Awake Newborn Photos Are Still Beautiful
A newborn session is not about forcing your baby to sleep.
We follow their cues.
Sometimes they sleep right away. Sometimes they need to eat. Sometimes they want to be held. Sometimes they are wide awake and taking everything in.
That is completely normal.
I always give babies time to settle. We can take a break, feed them, change them, or simply slow down.
There is no need to rush.
What Happens If Baby Won't Sleep?
We simply go with it.
I may adjust the poses we are doing. We may take some parent and baby photos. We can capture little details like hands, feet, eyelashes, and those sweet wide-open eyes.
And sometimes, after a little time, baby falls asleep anyway.
The goal is not to make your baby perform.
The goal is to photograph your baby exactly as they are.
So if your baby is awake when you arrive at the studio, don't stress.
I've got you.
